Shot Heard around the world
It was a typical day in the colonies when Lexington received news that the British were coming to seize their weapons. As the British quickly marched upon Lexington, the militia prepared to fight for their freedom. When the British arrived, the colonists were in awe of the amount of British soldiers coming their way. 700 to 70. The colonists stood no chance. Then, a shot went off. No one knew who shot it even to this day. The colonists started to run. The British chased them into the town of Concord where the colonists were storing their weapons. But the colonists knew of the British attack beforehand so they hid the weapons before the British could seize them. We asked Captain Parker of the colonists what he felt as the British were closing in and this is what he had to say:
"It was scary. Just the thought of 700 soldiers coming at you. I have to say, I don't think we would've stood a chance even though we have been working so hard." |
The colonists eventually secured the weapons in a safe spot. This was a great scare for both the colonists and British. For the colonists, they knew the British would overpower them. For the British, they were worried this was a start to a war. The British may have outnumbered the colonists, but the colonists outsmarted the British.
