On November 2, 1734, Daniel Boone was born near Reading, Pennsylvania. His father, Squire Boone, was a weaver and a blacksmith while his mother stayed at home and did chores. Daniel received very little proper education. While his mother taught him to read and write, his father taught him wilderness survival skills. He received his first rifle when he was 12 years old. He quickly proved to be an excellent hunter with great survival skills. By age 15, he started his own hunting business after he moved to Rowan County in North Carolina. This was just the start to his very successful career.
Before his famous adventures and expeditions, Boone got married to Rebecca Bryan. He thought he would live a happy life with his wife and children with no worries. When he believed this, he uttered his most famous quote, "All you need for happiness is a good gun, a good horse, and a good wife." His mindset consisted of those thoughts until one day, he decided that he wanted to make a change in the world. In 1767, he led his first expedition. It was a hunting trip that followed the Big Sandy River in Kentucky into Floyd County. In 1775, Boone led his most important expedition. On this trip, he founded the well-known Cumberland Gap that connected the 13 colonies to the frontier. It was a very popular trail and remains well-known today.
Daniel Boone influenced the Revolutionary War in many ways. He was a militia officer during the Revolutionary War from 1775-1782. During this time period, Boone was one of the best officers because he knew the land very well due to his explorations. In Kentucky, Boone primarily fought against the Indians who were sided with the British. These fights helped the revolution by keeping the Indians away from the colonies. They also set the stage for colonists to move into the frontier. Boone played the most influential part in founding the frontier. He was also very influential in the American Revolution. If Daniel Boone had never changed his mindset of living life easily with his wife at home, America would not be the same today.
